Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has approved the appointment of Alhaji Suleiman Sa’ad Abubakar as the new Emir of Kagarko, following the death of the former monarch, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar.

The appointment, which takes immediate effect, was announced in a statement issued on Monday by the Kaduna State Commissioner for Local Government, Alhaji Sadiq Mamman Lagos.

According to the commissioner, the new emir, who until his appointment held the traditional title of San Turakin Kagarko, emerged after what he described as a rigorous selection process conducted by the kingmakers of the Kagarko Emirate Council.

“The appointment followed a rigorous selection process by the kingmakers of the Kagarko Emirate Council, during which a pool of contestants was screened before Suleiman Sa’ad Abubakar was eventually selected,” the statement read.

The government said the stool became vacant following the death of the late second-class Emir of Kagarko, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, who died on January 8, 2026, after spending six years on the throne.

Governor Sani congratulated the new emir on his ascension to the throne of his forefathers and urged him to promote peace and unity across the emirate.

“The Governor also charged the new Emir to steadfastly promote peace and harmony within his communities,” the commissioner added.

The statement further disclosed that arrangements for the formal installation ceremony and presentation of the staff of office to the new emir would be announced in due course.

Kagarko Emirate, located in southern Kaduna State, is one of the prominent traditional institutions in the state and plays a significant role in grassroots administration, conflict resolution and cultural preservation within the area.

The late emir, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, was installed in 2020 after the creation and restructuring of some chiefdoms and emirates by the Kaduna State Government.

During his reign, the emirate witnessed efforts aimed at strengthening peaceful coexistence among the diverse ethnic and religious groups in the area.
